This will be my last week teaching Mrs. Wilson’s classes.  She will be returning on Monday, November 16th.  You may refer any questions you have after this coming week to her school email starting on November 16th.

I have enjoyed my time with the students.  I have especially taken pleasure in  reading their writings.  Ask them to share some of them with you.  You have some talented kids!  I will miss them, but I will still be seeing them around as I continue to substitute at Life Schools.

This week we:

  • wrote a paper on the 30-day Trial
  • began and completed chapter 7
  • took a test over chapter 7
  • talked about jobs/budgeting
  • wrote down what chapter they have gained the most helpful information from in their book

Classes on Tuesday and Wednesday were shortened due to Benchmark Testing

This week we:

  • Took a test over chapter 4
  • began Chapter 5
  • studied about interviewing
  • interviewed each other
  • wrote down who we want to interview for our next newsletter
  • Current Events on Friday

Classes were cut short this week on Tuesday and Wednesday due to Benchmark testing

This week we:

  • Completed Outsiders Portfolio Checklist
  • began a new list of vocabulary words
  • completed a Literary Crossword puzzle
  • Completed Tuff Talks
  • On Friday, presented a two-page paper on the character they most identify with from The Outsiders

Classes were cut short due to Benchmark testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.

What  a busy week!  This week we:

  • Did our “Outsiders Portforlio Checklist”
  • Began a new word list for our vocabulary words
  • Completed a literary crossword puzzle
  • Learned about prepositions and prepositional phrases, completing exercises 58&59, pp.473-474
  • took a vocabulary test (SAT 6)

Classes were cut short on Tuesday and Wednesday due to Benchmark testing

This Friday all Pre-Ap students will turn in their two-page paper based on who they identify with the most from our novel, The Outsiders.  As an extra bit of fun, they can dress like a Greaser or a Soc on Friday when they present.

Benchmark Testing was on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  The ninth grade was not actually testing, although they had to stay confined to one room till testing for the other grades was over.

More updates later!

Please make sure your child is ready for their vocabulary test on Friday!

Tuesday/Wednesday- Benchmark.  Although the ninth grade did not have testing, they were required to be in one room doing independent work while the other grades tested. They were able to do extra credit with some “tuff talks”, and on Wednesday they were supposed to write a one-page paper about who they identify with the most from the novel The Outsiders.

Catching Up!

Well, Benchmarks are over, and it’s time to update!  I apologize for not getting to post. Between Benchmarks and getting all grades in for report cards, it has been a little hectic.

I enjoyed meeting you all at parent night, and I hope you were able to get the information you needed.  I have been working hard to keep the students updated about their grades.  Most of them  have been diligent about making sure they had all their work in.

Our time in class has been shortened over the last two weeks due to Benchmark testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I hope to make up for that lost time during the last week and a half that I am here.  Mrs. Wilson returns on Nov. 16th.

We learned many things this week about the power of habits, both good and bad.  I enjoyed it as the students shared what they thought were some of their good habits, and then shared some of their bad habits.  We discussed some ways to help them change bad habits.  Also this week, each student presented their research on kids entrepreneurs, how they got started, why they did, and what they did.    It was interesting to hear their choices.

First period Journalism produced their first newsletter.  Make sure you ask your child for a copy of it.  I am so proud of them.  From interviews to comics, informative articles to sports news, the students made the newsletter  top-notch!  This week we continued to study Chapter 4, studying beats and physical sources of news.  We also read an article called “Jimmy’s World”, which turned out to be a fictional piece, but presented as fact.  Once again, we talked about ethics in the world of journalism.

Seventh period journalism began working on their newsletter this week.  Their articles will come out on the October 30th edition.
